Description
In server based computing the applications, which are seen in the terminals managed by central servers.
Benefits
Server based computing provides the following advantages for business:
Drastic cost reductions
Companies today suffer from the huge repetitive costs involved with the replacement of equipment. These replacement costs originate usually from the need to increase the machine's processing capacity so that they can implement more sophisticated and modern programs. The server based computing model allows for better performance and increased capacity - scale in- of the central server (or using an additional server parallel to the other -scale out-), thereby avoiding the replacement of the client terminals.
The server based computing also reduces the total cost of ownership (TCO) of the computational platform, due to the centralized installation and support of the applications. Studies from Microsoft show savings of up to 37% by using the server based computing architecture.
Implementation of existing applications for use on the Internet
The server based computing makes very effective use of the bandwidth (this is the transmission capacity of the communication channel). This factor, combined with the fact that the current methods of server based computing support internet browsers as access terminals, make possible that in the majority of cases existing applications can be implemented for use on the Internet without the need of further modifications.
High Availability
If it's true that server based computing reduces the possible breakdown points in a system, the infrastructure in charge of offering the server based computing becomes even more important, due to the fact that the operation of all the user equipment depends upon it. For that reason the server based computing services involve sophisticated redundancy schemes, which guarantee a very high availability of the information systems.
Reduction in the Time to Market of New Services
An important factor in the complexity of launching a new information service is associated with the logistics of installation and support of the application in the user's equipment. By centralizing this installation in a few servers the objective of speeding up and simplifying the availability of the product to the desired customers is readily reached.
Scope
The server based computing services of Vision Software S.A. have the following scope:
Analysis and Modification of Applications
It is necessary to analyse the applications for a server based computing scheme in a very professional manner. From the use of the registry to the escalation and use of memory resources of the application, these are among the fundamental factors for the correct design and mounting of the server based computing platform. If modifications to the server based computing model are necessary in order to operate the application, Vision Software S.A. makes the necessary recommendations.
Design and Mounting of the Platform
Analysing the number of terminals which have access to the servers, from the applications which are to be implemented centrally and the availability and security requirements, amongst other factors, Vision Software S.A. recommends the design of the platform and equipment which best adapt to the requirements. We have tried and tested experience from the design, dimension and mounting of a small server based computing model supporting 50 terminals with a departmental server, to the mounting of a farm of 7 very powerful redundant servers supporting 800 terminals in an availability environment of 7 days a week, 24 hours a day (7x24).
Training
Vision Software S.A. trains the employees within the company who are required to operate the server based computing platform.
Support and/or Operation
Vision Software S.A. offers a support (we are a Microsoft certified support centre) to those employees who require it or if the client wishes we operated the platform (outsourcing support) thereby guaranteeing the service level agreement that our clients demand. |
